Before Sharpsburg
From Braxton County, he mustered as Private, Company C, 9th Virginia Infantry Battalion on 18 May 1861 in Hunterville. On 1 May 1862 he transferred to Company C, 25th Virginia Infantry. He was promoted to First Corporal in April 1862, and wounded in the arm or shoulder at McDowell, VA on 8 May 1862. He was treated in hospitals in Charlottesville and Lynchburg, VA in June.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
