From Bedford County, he mustered as Private in the Bedford Light Artillery on 5 August 1861 in Liberty, VA.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was absent sick in November 1862 and on furlough in January 1864. He surrendered at Appomattox Court House on 9 April 1865.
