Before Sharpsburg
He mustered as Private in Company A, First Battalion Virginia Infantry on 9 May 1861 in Covington. He was wounded on picket at Valley Mountain, VA on 27 September 1861. He was in a hospital in Winchester, VA in January 1862 and returned to duty in July.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died in a US Army hospital in Maryland on 15 October 1862.
