Before Sharpsburg
On 20 April 1861, in Columbus, GA, he mustered as Private in the Columbus Light Guard, later part of the 2nd Independent Georgia Infantry. In the Spring of 1862 he transferred to the Portsmouth Light Artillery.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, and died of wounds the next day on the J. H. Grove Farm.
