Before Sharpsburg
From Mecklenburg, he mustered as Private, Company A, 56th Virginia Infantry on on 8 August 1861. He was wounded in action at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June 1862, hospitalized in Richmond, and given a furlough.
On the Campaign
He was listed as missing, and presumed killed in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
