A 29 year old farmer in Amherst County, he mustered as Private in Company H, 19th Virginia Infantry on 15 April 1861 at Amherst Court House, VA. He was wounded at Williamsburg, VA on 5 May 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
