A 20 year old clerk in Hampton, he mustered as Private, Company A, 32nd Virginia Infantry on 13 May 1861. He was promoted to First Sergeant on 22 May 1862. He was absent, sick, in December 1861 and returned to duty in March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in Frederick, MD, date not given.
