Before Sharpsburg

A blacksmith's son, in 1860 he was a 17 year old clerk living with his parents and 2 siblings in Frederickburg, VA. He enlisted there on 22 April 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B, 30th Virginia Infantry. He was promoted to Corporal on 10 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the knee in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was disabled by his Sharpsburg wound and did not return to his unit. He was discharged on 1 July 1864.
