Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 17 year old living on his parents' farm in Wake County, NC. Giving his occupation as student, he enlisted on 12 May 1862 at Camp McIntosh and mustered as a Private in Company I, First North Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
His father H.W. Jones filed for his final pay of $46.56 in August 1863.
