Before Sharpsburg
From Alamance County, he was an alumnus of the Hillsborough Military Academy and served as a Confederate drillmaster before he was old enough to enlist. On 15 July 1862, then age 18, he mustered as Private, Company B, First North Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
