Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted at Camp Clark in Guadalupe County as a Private in Company B, 4th Texas Infantry on 11 July 1861. He was promoted to 2nd Corporal on 16 June 1862, to 5th Sergeant on 24 July, and to 4th Sergeant on 31 August.
On the Campaign
He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was made 3rd Sergeant on 22 September 1862 and 2nd Sergeant on 1 May 1863. He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to his chest at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863 and captured. He died on 15 July 1863 in a US Army field hospital, probably on the Plank Farm, and was buried there.
After the War
He was reinterred in Hollywood Cemetery in August 1872.
