Age 21, from Hertford County, he mustered as Sergeant, Company F, First North Carolina Infantry on 23 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was commissioned First Lieutenant on 29 July 1863. He transferred to the 68th North Carolina Infantry on 14 October 1863 and was promoted to Captain on 14 October 1863.

After the War

He was a farmer at Murfreesboro in the 1880 US Census.
