Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 20 year old day laborer at Jamesville in Martin County, NC. He enlisted on 24 June 1861 at Williamston, NC and mustered as a Private in Company H, First North Carolina Infantry. He was wounded in action at Malvern Hill, VA on 1 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862; "he was a brave soldier."

The rest of the War

His mother Adeline filed for his final pay of $122.38 in August 1863.
