Before Sharpsburg
Age 24, from Beaufort County, he mustered as Private, Company E, 4th North Carolina Infantry on 31 May 1861 in Washington, NC. He was sick in Chimborazo Hospital #2 in Richmond, VA with febris thyphoides from 25 April to 8 August 1862, then returned to duty.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
