From Rockingham County, he enlisted in Wentworth, NC on 3 May 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company H, 13th North Carolina Infantry. He was promoted to Sergeant on 28 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
