A 23 year old mechanic in Caswell County, he mustered as Private, Company C, 13th North Carolina Infantry on 24 April 1861 in Caswell County. He was promoted to Corporal on 26 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
