A 27 year old merchant in Warren County, he mustered as Private, Company A, 14th North Carolina Infantry on 30 March 1861 in Warren County. He was promoted to Corporal on 1 June 1861 but reduced to Private again on 13 January 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
