Before Sharpsburg
Age 24, from Louisiana, he volunteered as a substitute and mustered as Private, Company C, 14th North Carolina Infantry on 16 July 1862 in Wake County.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated at a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD where his arm was amputated. He was transferred to Baltimore about 1 October, then to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange on 27 October. He was exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 2 November but died of his wounds in a hospital in Richmond, VA on 8 November 1862.
