Before Sharpsburg
Age 24, from Hertford County, he was conscripted and enlisted as a Private in Company G, 14th North Carolina Infantry on 16 July 1862 in Raleigh.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died on 15 (or 18) October 1862 in Harrisonburg, VA. His widow Barbara E. Willoughby filed for his final pay in February 1863.
