Age 23, from Cumberland County, he mustered as Private, Company F, 24th North Carolina Infantry on 1 June 1861 in Cumberland County. He was absent without leave on 30 March 1862, but returned to duty on 1 May.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
