Before Sharpsburg
From Monroe County, he mustered as First Sergeant, Company A, 14th Georgia Infantry on 9 July 1861. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 1 October 1861 and promoted to First Lieutenant on 31 May 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the eye in action near Harpers Ferry, VA on 12 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He lost sight in at least one eye and resigned for disability on 14 May 1863.
