Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 24 year old farmer living among three other Hemperly farms at Fayetteville, GA. He mustered as a Private in Company E, 27th Georgia Infantry on 9 September 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 16 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated at the "White House" hospital on the Line farm at Sharpsburg, but died there of wounds, date not given.
