He enlisted in Robertson County as a Private in Company C, 4th Texas Infantry on 15 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action on 14 September 1862 on South Mountain/Boonsboro.

The rest of the War

He returned to duty and was furloughed in November 1862. He was listed as a deserter "in the face of the enemy" near Franklin Depot, VA in April 1863. He'd been captured at Suffolk, VA. He was sent to City Point, VA for exchange on . Instead of reporting to the parole camp, he went to "visit relations" in Alabama, and subsequently "attached himself" to a Mississippi cavalry unit. By March 1864 he was with a unit back in Texas, and petitioned General J.B. Magruder for permission to rejoin the 4th Texas or be allowed to transfer officially, to clear the charge of desertion. There is no further record in his CSRs.
