A DeKalb County resident, he mustered as Private, Company A, 38th Georgia Infantry on 26 September 1861. He was promoted to 5th Sergeant in April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

Service from the Roster 1 via the Historical Data Systems database, which has him as G.W. Gaddy. Details from family genealogists. Family lore says he was killed by an artillery round at Sharpsburg. His memorial is on Findagrave, source also of his picture, from a heavily colored photograph of unknown provenance posted by Jonathan and Valerie Proffitt. He left at least five children.
