Before Sharpsburg

One of 10 children of farmers David Zacharias and Elizabeth Wiggins Atkins, in 1860 he was a 20 year old farm worker on John and Hester Kenady/Kennedy's place at Louisvile in Jefferson County, GA. He enlisted there on on 4 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company E, 48th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
