Son of a wheelwright, in 1860 he was a 19 year old farmer living with his parents and 9 siblings at Mobley's Pond in Screven County, GA. He enlisted in Burke County on 4 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company D, 48th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father filed for his final pay in April 1863.
