Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 17 year old farm worker on his widowed mother Rachel's place (with 3 slaves) at Reedy Creek in Jefferson County, GA; his grandparents Thomas & Nancy Connell and uncle Jesse Connell (11 slaves) were nearby. He enlisted at Louisville, GA on 4 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company E, 48th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the arm in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds before April 1863, specific date and place not given.

His service from Henderson1 and his Compiled Service Records,2 online from fold3. He is on a Sharpsburg casualty list in the Richmond (VA) Enquirer of 17 October 1862, as slightly wounded in the elbow.
