In 1860 he was a 48 year old overseer at Danielsville, Madison County, GA. Giving his occupation as blacksmith, he enlisted in Haralson as a Private in Company G, 53rd Georgia Infantry on 30 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His widow Eliza filed a claim for his back pay in August 1863.
