Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted at Harrisburg, TX as a Private in Company D, 4th Texas Infantry on 8 (or 10) August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September, but was sick at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Suffolk, VA in May 1863 and paroled for exchange at Fortress Monroe, VA on 13 May. He was captured again, on the Gettysburg Campaign, at Cashtown, PA on 3 July 1863, and sent to Fort Delaware, but he escaped, date not given and returned to his Company. He was granted a 90 day furlough in February 1864, was listed as absent without leave in June, but was on duty again by August 1864. He was in a Richmond hospital in February and March 1865 and was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
