He enrolled on 19 September 1861 in Dalton, GA and was appointed Junior 2nd Lieutenant (or 3rd Lieutenant) of Company B, 60th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was mortally wounded in the liver and lungs and captured at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863, and died of his wounds there on 23 July.
