Before Sharpsburg
A 22 year old clerk in New Orleans, he enlisted as Private, First Company, Washington Artillery on 26 May 1861 in New Orleans. He was promoted to Corporal on 22 October 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was left behind in Shepherdstown, VA and captured there on 3 January 1863. He was paroled at Fort McHenry, MD and sent to Fortress Monroe, VA on 31 January for exchange. He was detached to the Ordnance Department in Richmond to June 1864 and was dropped from the battery rolls by August 1864 as unfit for duty.
