Before Sharpsburg
A resident of New York City, he enlisted as Private, Company E, 15th Louisiana Infantry on 27 May 1861 in New Orleans.
On the Campaign
He was left behind in Sharpsburg to care for the wounded on 19 September 1862, and was captured there.
The rest of the War
He was exchanged at City Point, VA in November 1862. He was on furlough in January and February 1863, but returned to duty in March. He was captured in action at Morton's Ford, VA on the Rapidan River on 26 September 1863 and held at the Old Capitol Prison, Washington, DC. He was released on an oath of allegiance on 14 March 1864.
