He enlisted at Seguin in Guadalupe County as a Private in Company D, 4th Texas Infantry on 21 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded by a gunshot to his right wrist at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863, his arm was amputated, and he was captured. He died in a field hospital there on 27 July 1863.
