Before Sharpsburg
He came to Bienville Parish, LA in about 1850. On 12 March 1862, by then a 21 year old farmer in Brush Valley, LA he enlisted as a Private in Company H, 9th Louisiana Infantry. He was appointed 4th Sergeant on 15 April.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

About two months before he enlisted, in January 1862, he married Armenia A. Prothro (1841-1891) at her birthplace, Lexington, SC. They had a daughter Annie Tucker Staley Raborn (1862-1926), who was born 3 days after her father was killed.
