A 22 year old clerk in New Orleans, he enlisted on 2 May 1861 in New Orleans as Sergeant in Company G, First Louisiana Infantry. He was reduced to Private from First Sergeant on 29 April 1862 but promoted to Sergeant again on 25 June.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
