Before Sharpsburg

A 23 year old laborer in New Orleans, he enlisted as Private Company A, 10th Louisiana Infantry at Camp Moore, LA on 22 July 1861. He was promoted 2nd Sergeant, reduced to Private on 15 January 1862 and appointed First Sergeant, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was senior man present in his Company and commanded it at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was appointed First Lieutenant on 23 December 1862. He was captured in action in the Wilderness, VA on 10 May 1864 and held at Fort Delaware. He was sent to Fort Pulaski, GA on 20 October 1864 and transferred to Hilton Head, SC on 1 January 1865. He was released on the oath of allegiance on 16 June 1865.
