Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as Sergeant, Company B, 10th Louisiana Infantry on 22 July 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. He was captured in action ner Richmond, VA on 28 June 1862 and held at Fort Columbus, NY and Fort Delaware before being exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 5 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant in October 1862 and wounded and captured in action at Gettysburg, PA on 4 July 1863. He was in the US Army General Hospital at Chester, PA in September 1863 and was transferred to Point Lookout, MD 9 February 1864. He was paroled 3 May and exchanged at Aiken's Landing on 8 May 1864. He was paroled at Meridian, MS on 19 May 1865.
