Before Sharpsburg

From St. Louis, MO, he enlisted as Private, Company B, 10th Louisiana Infantry on 22 July 1861 at Camp Moore, LA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by gunshot and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at US Army hospitals in Frederick, MD, in October 1862, then sent to Fort McHenry, MD. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange, date not given, and was back on duty before December 1863. He was captured in action in the Wilderness, VA on 12 May 1864. He was held at Point Lookout, MD then transferred to Elmira, NY on 25 July 1864. He was released on taking the oath of allegiance 17 May 1865.
