Before Sharpsburg

A 32 year old clerk in New Orleans, he enlisted as First Sergeant, Company D, 10th Louisiana Infantry on 22 July 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. He was elected Junior 2nd Lieutenant on 1 January 1862. He was promoted to First Lieutenant, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was senior man present in his Company and commanded it at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded and captured in action at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863. He was admitted to the US Army hospital at Camp Letterman near Gettysburg on 27 July and to another hospital, location not given, on 27 October. He was sent to Fort McHenry, MD on 23 April 1864 and transferred Fort Delaware on 16 June. He was moved again, to Hilton Head, SC on 20 August and paroled at Charleston, DC on 15 December 1864. He was exchanged at Beaufort, SC in December 1864.
