Before Sharpsburg

A carpenter in New Orleans, he enlisted as Private, Company F, 10th Louisiana Infantry on 22 July 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. He was promoted to Corporal on 10 January 1862 and Sergeant, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled at Sharpsburg on 23 September and admitted to the hospital in Culpeper, VA on 29 September. He was again captured, in action at Gettysburg, PA on 5 July 1863. He was at the DeCamp General Hospital, Devil's Island, NY and paroled there on July 24. He was exchanged at City Point, VA on 8 September 1863. He was captured for the third time, in the Wilderness, VA on 12 May 1864. He was held at Point Lookout, MD then transferred to Elmira, NY on 28 July. He was released after taking the oath of allegiance on 29 December 1864.
