Before Sharpsburg

A 27 year old sailor in New Orleans, he enlisted as Private, Company G, 10th Louisiana Infantry on 22 July 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. He was promoted to Corporal on 1 February 1862 and to Sergeant before Sharpsburg.

On the Campaign

He was wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 23 September 1862. He deserted from his regiment and enlisted on 15 December 1862 as 4th Corporal, First Company, Stuart's Horse Artillery in Richmond, VA. He was promoted to First Corporal on 1 November 1864 and was with his battery to at least 20 January 1865.
