He enlisted as Private in Company G, 2nd Florida Infantry at Jacksonville, FL on 9 May 1861. He was promoted to 4th Corporal on 9 September 1861 and to Sergeant in July 1862.

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

He died of wounds on 14 October 1862, place not given.
