Age 18, he enlisted at Monticello, FL on 2 April 1861 and mustered on 19 April as a Private in Company I, First Florida Infantry for 1 years' service. He mustered out with them on 6 April 1862, but almost immediately reenlisted and mustered as a Private in Company E, 5th Florida Infantry on 26 April in Madison County, FL.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
