Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 30 year old overseer at Waukeenah in Jefferson County, FL, probably on the M.M. Simson/Simpson plantation (20 slaves). He enlisted on 25 April 1862 in Monticello, FL and mustered as a Private in Company G, 5th Florida Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was probably sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD and died there on 19 or 20 September 1862.
References & notes
His service from his Compiled Service Records,1 online from fold3, and the Biographical Rosters of Florida's Confederate and Union Soldiers 1861-1865, which says he was mortally wounded at Sharpsburg on 17 September and captured there (unlikely - Federal troops did not hold the field until 19 September and could not/would not have moved him to Frederick the same day). He's also on the Confederates In Frederick List.2 His gravesite is on Findagrave.
He married Nancy Ann Hiers (1831-1926) in January 1853 and they had 5 children.
