A 33 year old farmer, he enlisted as Private in Company C, 48th North Carolina Infantry on 1 August 1862 in Iredell County, NC.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to duty in June 1863 and was captured at Hatcher's Run, VA on 21 March 1865. He was held at Point Lookout, MD until he was released on taking the oath of allegiance 28 June 1865.

After the War

He was listed as a farmer (along with 4 other Lippards) in Statesville, Iredell County, NC in 1889.
