A married 20 year old farmer in Abbeville, AL, he mustered as Private, Company G, 15th Alabama Infantry on 3 July 1861 in Abbeville. He was promoted to 5th Sergeant "for gallantry" on 31 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in Shepherdstown, VA (now WV) on 20 September 1862.
