Age 45, from Coldwater, MI, he enlisted on 7 July 1862, in Coldwater, and mustered as Wagoner, Company H, 17th Michigan Infantry on 19 August.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and died there the next day.
