Age 23, from Niles, MI, he enlisted on 13 August 1862, in Niles, and mustered as Private, Company B, 17th Michigan Infantry on 26 August.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 16 October 1862.
