In 1860 he was a 17 year old farm boy on his parent's place at in Washtenaw County, MI. Credited from Clinton County, he enlisted on 13 August 1862 in Ypsilanti and mustered as a Private in Company E, 17th Michigan Infantry on 19 August.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
