Age 20, from Pittsfield, MI, he enlisted 22 July 1862 in Ypsilanti and mustered as Corporal, Company E, 17th Michigan Infantry on 19 August.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds in Alexandria, VA on 14 January 1863.

Service from the Record of Service.1 He was one of two men from Pittsfield, MI with the same name in Company E. The other one survived the war and lived in Ypsilanti.
